SHEQ Officer 

We're looking for a dedicated professional to support the organisation in maintaining a safe, compliant working environment by implementing, monitoring and improving health, safety, quality and environmental processes in line with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation, company requirements, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 9001:2015 management system principles. The SHEQ Officer is responsible for site safety files, inspections, audits, hazard identification and risk assessment, incident investigations, training and awareness, and promoting a proactive SHEQ culture across operational and project sites.

Main purpose of the job
To ensure the organisation complies with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation by implementing, maintaining, and monitoring health and safety policies, procedures, and ISO 45001:2018/ISO 9001:2015 Management systems. The SHEQ Officer is responsible for promoting a safe working environment, conducting inspections and audits, Hazard identification and risk assessment, investigating incidents, facilitating safety training, and fostering a strong culture of health and safety across the business and sites. 
Key Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to: 
  • Review and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices. 
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and company policies. 
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety audits, and compliance assessments. 
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement corrective and preventative actions. 
  • Conduct incident, accident, and near-miss investigations and prepare detailed reports. 
  • Conduct compliance audits on site and office to ensure compliance. 
  • Maintain all health and safety records, registers, statutory documentation, and compliance files. 
  • Facilitate health and safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programmes. 
  • Ensure employees and contractors comply with health and safety requirements. 
  • Monitor the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 
  • Participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings and ensure legislative compliance. 
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, evacuation procedures, and emergency drills. 
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits where required. 
  • Promote a positive and proactive health and safety culture throughout the organisation 
  • Provide required bid response documentation in terms of SHEQ. 
  • Ensure that all reviewed and approved policies are uploaded to DMS and published to all relevant NEC XON personnel. 
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 45001/9001 standards across the organisation. 
  • Assist, prepare and participate in internal and certification audits for ISO 45001/9001. 
  • Maintain and compile all site-specific safety files. 
  • Maintain, review and upload all SHEQ documentation onto shared folders. 
Skills and Experience required
Competencies 
  • Implementation and Compliance of Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and associated regulations. 
  • Solid knowledge ISO 45001:2018 Safety Management System 
  • Solid knowledge ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System 
  • Internal Training and Facilitating 
  • Health and Safety management systems and best practices. 
  • Incident investigation methodologies. 
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment principles. 
  • Emergency preparedness and response procedures. 
  • Safety auditing processes and statutory compliance requirements. 
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an Occupational Health & Safety role. 
  • Proven experience conducting workplace inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations. 
  • Experience implementing and monitoring health and safety management systems. 
  • Experience delivering health and safety training and awareness programmes. 
  • Previous experience within engineering, construction, manufacturing, industrial, or technical environments is advantageous. 
Experience & Qualifications ​
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field. 
  • NEBOSH/SAMTRAC certification. 
  • Incident Investigation 
  • HIRA 
  • Computer Literacy

  • ISO 9001:2015 certification. 
  • SAIOSH certification. 
  • Legal Liability certification. 
  • First Aid certification. 
  • Fire Fighting certification.
